Holocaust Memorial Day

Our Key Stage 2 children attended an assembly yesterday where I shared a presentation on Holocaust Memorial Day. The 27th January is the day for everyone to remember the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust and, although not discussed yesterday, the genocides which followed. This year (2020) marks 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and we talked about how discrimination lead to so many Jewish people being killed or worked to death. I told the children about my visit to Auschwitz recently and the impact that had on me. We had a minute to quietly reflect and we said a prayer of peace for the future. The Holocaust Memorial Day website has some further information  if you wish to talk more with your children.
