Internet Safety Day 2019

Safer Internet Day is celebrated globally in February each year in over a hundred countries to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and young people and inspire a national conversation. Coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre the celebration sees hundreds of organisations get involved to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.

Safer Internet Day is a fantastic opportunity to reflect as a family about how you can use the internet and technology safely, responsibly and positively. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, foster carer, aunt, uncle or older sibling – we can all play a role in empowering children to enjoy their time online!

This year, the UK Safer Internet Centre is particularly focusing on how consent works in an online context and exploring how young people ask, give, and receive consent online. This could be in their friendships or relationships, how they take and share images and videos or how they manage their privacy and data.

A pack has been created to support your family in having conversations and taking part in activities which will have a positive impact on your online experiences. Please visit to download a copy or contact the school office and we will send a pack home with your child/ren.

The Great Dalby team take internet safety incredibly importantly and your child/ren receive online safety lessons regularly in PSHE and Computing. We have recently updated our E-Safety Policy and to mark Internet Safety Day we are launching this policy on Tuesday. Included in the policy is an acceptable use agreement for children, staff and visitors which we will all read and sign this week. The policy will be available on our website. Also this week the children in KS2 will take part in a school E Safety survey; the results of this will be shared and compared with yourselves and the children. Alongside this Year 6 will take part in a local authority online survey which will show the local picture surrounding children’s online experiences.

Please visit our E Safety page on this website for useful links and support.

Mrs Corner, Mrs Ward and I invite you to join on Wednesday 27thFebruary at 6pm at our event ‘Helping your Child/ren Stay Safe Online and Thrive in the Modern World’. This event will cover Internet Safety as well as our RSE (Relationship and Sex Education) consultation. Please save the date; we urge as many parents as possible to attend this important event.
